I'm sure a lot of us have already done this “inkblot art” while we were in pre school. I feel it is one of the most interesting form of art. This particular art form gives quick results and the outcome just leaves you surprised. This art form can also be used in a psychological test. The art piece is shown to a person and later he is asked to analyze and understand the image and come up with his own perception of it.

Materials required:

  • Any good quality paper

  • Paints/ink

  • Thread

  • Palette(if required)

The process:

  • Take your piece of paper, fold in half and open it back out again like a book.

  • Lightly pour or dab paint onto one side of your paper.

  • Gently fold the page shut again and lightly (or firmly!) press down to sandwich the pages together. Applying varying amounts of pressure will affect the end result in different ways.

  • Gently peel page apart – do not let it dry while folded. And you can finally see some amazing, satisfying and abstract results.

In the above explorations I've taken pages of an old book to give it a vintage feel. I've used Acrylic paints therefore the paint is thick and has led to a vein like texture on folding. It is fascinating to see how these abstract designs have been formed. I can also see an intestine, butterfly, earphones, etc. formed in a few of them!

These are some more of my explorations where I've played with different colors and textures. In these explorations I've used a thread. Each exploration resulted in a new and different pattern. I can relate the first picture to a shell but my friend thinks of it as some sort of jellyfish. I relate the second picture to a lot of things like hen, horse, one of the chess coins, etc. but it's a very nice design. In the third and fourth picture I can see a tornado. To make it a little more interesting in the last art piece I've tried mixing zentangle with Rorschach! I love the end results of this art form, it is just so satisfying!

As a fashion student I had to relate fashion to this. Therefore I added a fashion croquis. Here I tried different color palettes, patterns and texture. It's weird the first one gives me the feel of a skeleton figure. I love the second art piece because it looks like a proper garment with puffed sleeves and a skirt. I can imagine an actress wearing the third one as a garment for an award ceremony. I can relate the fourth one to a high neck, fast fashion long coat/dress. I find the last one interesting since there's use of bright and vibrant hues. I can look at it as a layered garment.

Well, so who would've imagined that the paints we splashed on paper in U.K.G were actually our baby steps towards new explorations.

So these were all my explorations and I really enjoyed doing this assignment and I just can't have enough of it. I hope you found it interesting too. Let me know which one was your favorite! Do share your vibes and comment!
