Paper embroidery is popular with fans of both needlework and paper crafts. Stitching is done on sturdy paper or card stock by inserting needle and thread through holes that the embroiderer has pierced along the design according to the pattern.
After assessing on fabric, garments now it's paper's turn! Sounds interesting, isn't it?
FRIDA KAHLO
Frida Kahlo, in full Frida Kahlo de Rivera, original name Magdalena Carmen Frieda Kahlo y Calderón.
A Mexican painter best known for her brilliantly colored portraits featuring self identity, the human body, and death.
Kahlo stood against gender discrimination. The society perceived her as an icon for her beauty standards, but she was beyond that. The terrible accident at the age of 18 did not deter her resilience and she refused to give up. She was open about bisexuality at a time when it was raising it's ugly head. She was the first woman to be a member of the communist party. Her life is a source of inspiration as she refused to follow the diktats of the hypocritical society towards women.
In her paintings, she used bright shades of red, green, yellow, orange and blue, taking cue from this I have imitated the same color palette. I have embroidered her shawl by chain stitch and her neck piece by bullion knot.
GUESS?
This beautiful Ghagra is a fusion of embroidery and knife pleating with balloon silhouette . I made the knife pleating using a fabric and stamped prints on it. Satin stitch embroidery has been used in this art piece. I visualize myself dressed up in this attire for an occasion!
I feel embroidery has the power to convert boring plain paper, fabrics... into an aesthetic piece. I have tried to attempt surface design by experimenting embroidery on different materials. Do share your vibes and comment!
