Macramé is known as the art of knotting. Macramé is a crafting technique used to make or create textiles using a series of knots. It is a paradise for people who love working with their hands and it's manipulation completely depends on the crafter. The knotting is done using macramé threads that are usually made of cotton, yarn or jute.
It's origin roots back to the 13th century, it is believed that in Arabian countries most people would make or have macramé wall hangings, clothes.. When the Bohemian culture rose, people were enchanted with this and gave a new lease of life to this art form. Bohemians were fashionistas and their footprints remains a source of inspiration to fashion designers!
Materials required
Cotton macramé cord (rope)
Wood or metal dowel (for a more organic natural look)
Scale
Scissors
keychain hoops for keychains, hanging ring for plant hanger, wooden dowel for wall hanging
Out of the many processes here's the process of square knot and larks head.
LARKS HEAD: one of the most basic knots in Macramé.
Start by folding your piece of macramé cord in half.
See that little loop? Place that loop under your ring or dowel.
Now fish the ends of the cording through that loop.
Pull tight and you have your lark’s head knot!
SQUARE KNOT:

Start with two Lark’s head Knots.
There should be a total of 4 macramé cords there.
We are going to take the outer left cord and cross it over the two middle cords.
Now take the outer right cord and place it on top of the left cord and UNDER the two middle cords.
Loop it through the hole on the left side.
Now pull tight without letting your cords twist.
Yay! You now have ONE side of your square knot done. You have now completed a half square knot.

You should still see your 4 cords there – got it? Good.
Take the outer RIGHT cord and cross it over the two middle cords.
Take the outer left cord and place it on top of the left cord and UNDER the two middle cords.
Loop it through the hole on the right side.
Now pull your cords tight. Your Right Half Square Knot is complete.
You have completed the full square knot.
When you repeat this knot over and over again (in rows) – you end up with a beautiful pattern of tightly weaved or netted cording.
I'm in love with this pair of blue macramé coaster! The beauty lies in it's knots. The number of knots present in this will make you doozy! It was super fun to make these.
I was so engrossed in making macramé key chains, didn't realize when I'd made so many! The designs of the keychains include flower keychain, spiral knot keychain, square knot keychain, double hitch knot keychain and more. It was amazing to see how the knots turned out differently in each design!

These are cute little bright earrings inspired from rainbow! I do believe they could come out better but I'm still in awe of them. Wouldn't they go perfectly with high neck knitted dress?
Macramé is something that is now undoubtedly going to be part of my me-time, simply because I am smitten by it's beauty and I can't wait to explore it deeper. If you are a boho lover, you would try it out in a heartbeat! A small tip, do remember to tighten each knot or else there might be chances of the threads or knots slipping out. Macramé is time friendly and once you've got your hand at it trust me it'll leave you wanting for more. Do share your vibes and comment!
