Nowadays, embroidery is everywhere in the luxury fashion world, from caps, hats, coats, blankets to shirts, denim, dresses and stockings and it can also be applied to furniture.
I have been doing a lot of embroidery lately. Starting off with fabric and now experimenting on garments! In the last blog, you saw how I tried different stitches and patterns on a fabric but now it's about fusing 'Fashion and Embroidery.'
TROPICAL LEAF
I have always wanted to try embroidery on a pair of denim and here it is! I embroidered a shaded tropical leaf on the back pocket of my shorts using satin stitch. I loved the way the denim has complemented the embroidery.
SUPPOSED TO BE A LLAMA
It's funny how it's supposed to be a Llama but it's not.. well it's french knotted Llama! I have added a bit of satin stitch too. I embroidered a Llama on black shorts to see how colors pop up in black! Usually Llama's are shaded(two shades) but my Llama is in shades of brown! It requires a lot of endurance to do this. Not to deny I kept running out of threads and here's why it looks the way it looks :)
THE PATCHED JEANS
I love this particular experiment. Patch work is a part of embroidery technique. This patch work is inspired from running stitch. I took three pieces of fabric and did abstract designs using running stitches. Later I sewed them onto my jeans and did a few running stitches to emboss vibrant colors. I was amazed to see the results and am sure going to do more of this in future!
EMBROIDERED MOUCHOIR
Here is a set of embroidered handkerchief made on pure cotton. I've used different natural motifs in each of them. It's mainly inspired from flora. I have used various types of stitches like satin stitch, french knot, chain stitch, back stitch, stem stitch, straight stitch and more. I've locked the sides of the handkerchief by doing closed blanket stitch to prevent it from wearing out.
COUNTED FLOWER BUNCH
This handkerchief took me a lot of time, hard work and composure. It's done on a matic cloth using the technique of counted thread embroidery. This technique of embroidery involves counting of thread in fabric for every stitch. So, symmetrical stitches are generated. Cross stitch is one of the most common counted thread embroideries and I've implemented the same! I chose a muted tone for the background to make sure the design is clearly visible! The tassels at the edges gives it a stylish impression.
I'm still in process of learning other techniques and stitches. I love how my interest has embarked it's journey towards this particular handicraft. I say I’d do embroidery again in a heartbeat! So what are you waiting for? Grab your favorite dress, needle, colorful threads and get started. Do share your vibes and comment!
