We all have done paper cutting at least once in our lives and the satisfaction it gives is unbelievable. But paper cutting in terms of fashion plays a huge role. We as fashion students make illustrations, work with various kind of fabrics, design garments, etc. But not to forget experimenting plays a major role in this. The intricate details and the curves require a lot of patience. But at the end of the day all of this is worth it!
Here's what you need for paper cutting:
Any kind of paper
blade/paper cut knife
cutting board
pencil/colors/sketch pens if required
The process:
Take a paper and draw any random design you like. Once you are done drawing cut out the drawn part and wait for the magic! You can also add textures and colors to understand your design better.
In the first design I've cut out half squares to give it a look of a brick wall. I took inspiration from my building and tried giving it the same feel.
In my second design I've cut out waves to give it a wavy look and I feel it goes well with the composition of the garment.
To understand my cuts and elements better I placed the art work on different backgrounds. It's interesting to see the look and feel changes based on the background!
Paper cutting is about transforming a plain sheet of paper into something interesting. I decided to take one of my illustrations and convert it into a paper cut design!
The beauty about this art form is in it's details. I'm for sure trying to get my details right but I enjoyed paper cutting a lot and looking forward for more art pieces. Try out and let me know your experience! Do share your vibes and comment!
